§ Databases · Relational

Oracle backups, natively.

Data Pump export of the schemas you choose, consistent to one moment, through a per-run directory object that is created and dropped around every run. Credentials come from a wallet or a short-lived tmpfs parameter file.

What Xtic runs

expdp
expdp parfile=<tmpfs> schemas=HR directory=XTIC_STAGE dumpfile=hr_%U.dmp filesize=4G flashback_time=systimestamp

Shown with placeholders. Credentials never appear on a command line: they reach the tool through the environment, a file descriptor or a short-lived file in memory.

Restore paths

  • Original schemas: impdp with table_exists_action=replace, after approval
  • Under a new name: impdp with remap_schema
  • Fresh: a full export imported into an empty PDB

Verification

The export log must report success with no ORA- errors; impdp verify_only on 21c and later. Every artifact is also hashed, and the stored copy is read back and compared before the run counts as verified.

Version rule

Import into the same or a newer release; exports for older targets set VERSION.

Good to know

  • Creating the directory object is a prerequisite that an administrator approves once
  • Xtic leaves Oracle compression at metadata-only and applies its own encryption, so no extra options are needed
  • Licence and editions: COMPRESSION=ALL needs Advanced Compression and PARALLEL>1 needs Enterprise Edition — Xtic's defaults need neither.
