§ Databases · Relational
MariaDB backups, natively.
A consistent SQL dump per database with MariaDB's own tools, and a users.sql from --system=users. In the official image, root's unix-socket login means no password is needed at all.
What Xtic runs
mariadb-dump --defaults-extra-file=/dev/fd/3 --single-transaction --quick --routines --events --triggers --hex-blob appdbShown with placeholders. Credentials never appear on a command line: they reach the tool through the environment, a file descriptor or a short-lived file in memory.
Restore paths
- Original database or a new name, replayed with the mariadb client
- Fresh instance: users.sql first, then every database
- The sandbox-mode first line of newer dumps is stripped when restoring with older or MySQL clients
Verification
Exit code and stream on every run; a scratch restore in deep verification. Every artifact is also hashed, and the stored copy is read back and compared before the run counts as verified.
Version rule
Same or newer MariaDB; MariaDB and MySQL tools are never mixed.
Good to know
- Always the mariadb-* tool names — the mysql* names left the image in 11.0
- MariaDB GTIDs are never fed to MySQL or the reverse
- Licence and editions: GPL — no edition gates.
