§ Databases · Relational

Firebird backups, natively.

A gbak backup streamed straight to Xtic, with credentials in ISC_USER and ISC_PASSWORD.

What Xtic runs

gbak
gbak -b localhost/3050:/data/app.fdb stdout

Shown with placeholders. Credentials never appear on a command line: they reach the tool through the environment, a file descriptor or a short-lived file in memory.

Restore paths

  • Under a new path: gbak -c from the stream
  • Original database: gbak -r o, with no active connections, after approval

Verification

Exit code and stream; a scratch restore and gfix -v -full in deep verification. Every artifact is also hashed, and the stored copy is read back and compared before the run counts as verified.

Version rule

Older backups restore on newer servers; the target server's gbak is used.

Good to know

  • Encrypted databases need their key holder configured
  • Licence and editions: IPL / IDPL.
