§ Databases · Embedded

DuckDB backups, natively.

EXPORT DATABASE to Parquet files, or a plain file copy while no process has the database open for writing.

What Xtic runs

duckdb EXPORT DATABASE
duckdb -readonly /srv/app/app.duckdb -c "EXPORT DATABASE '/xtic/<run>/export' (FORMAT parquet, COMPRESSION zstd)"

Shown with placeholders. Credentials never appear on a command line: they reach the tool through the environment, a file descriptor or a short-lived file in memory.

Restore paths

  • IMPORT DATABASE into a new file

Verification

Export files present; storage version recorded. Every artifact is also hashed, and the stored copy is read back and compared before the run counts as verified.

Version rule

Backward storage compatibility since 0.10.

Good to know

  • DuckDB has a single writer: an application holding the file must be stopped by a pre-backup hook
  • Licence and editions: MIT.
